Hooray- A Giveaway!

Happy Monday, everyone.  My Sunday was spent running my first ever Half-Marathon.  Can I just tell you that I am tired.  Very tired.  I certainly feel a sense of accomplishment at having finished this goal, but now is definitely not the time to ask me if I plan on doing this again.  When I signed up for the race, no one mentioned that the last mile was going to be uphill over a bridge.  Yeesh!

So I am recovering today, but I am excited to bring you my first ever giveaway!  Itchelita Jewelry is a fun accessories site I have recently discovered.  She has some really cute pieces at completely affordable prices.

Check out some of my favorites...

Itchelita Jewelry is currently offering 15% off sitewide for my readers using the code: sparkle15
Have fun shopping!  But first, be sure to sign up for the giveaway below!

Here is the lovely necklace up for grabs!

Fall Finds: My Favorite Corduroy Pants Ever

Hello!  Today I wanted to share with you one of my favorite fashion finds for Fall.  I have a real soft spot for a good pair of corduroy pants.  This is kind of funny, considering that I absolutely hated them when I was a child.  Something about the swishing sound they made when I walked, I just thought they were the worst (was I the only one?).  Anyhow, cords have come a long way.  They provide such great texture to layer into a Fall outfit, not to mention how warm and cozy they are (though I am still waiting on some cooler weather around here).

Well, I found a pair that, hands down, are the best pair of corduroy pants I have come across.  They are the Modern Skinny Cords from Loft.  And the best part?  They come in 7 different fabulous Fall colors.  I will take one of each, please.  Well, for now I am starting with the Cranberry and the Navy, but I am certain I won't be stopping there!

**They also come in Deep Pacific Teal and Forever Navy, colors not included in the graphic above.

A Baby Sprinkle Shower

When someone is a first-time mother, there is so much that they need.  Babies require so much stuff, it is mind boggling!  But when it is time for the subsequent babies to arrive, the needs change.  Most parents still have all the usual necessities covered (left over from baby #1), but there is still the desire to celebrate the new bundle, and if baby #2 (or #3 or #4) is a different gender, wardrobe additions are undoubtedly needed.  Hence the idea of a baby sprinkle.  I just love this.  It is a mini shower, if you will, usually a smaller group, and usually focused on clothing and fun baby things!

Two lovely friends of mine recently hosted a Sprinkle Shower for another friend of ours, to share everyone's excitement about her soon-to-arrive baby girl.  They did such a wonderful job!

It was the cutest Baby Sprinkle ever, and I just had to share it with you!

Autumn's lovely home was the perfect setting for the shower.

The cutest invitation, perfect for a Sprinkle Shower.

White pompoms were rain clouds sprinkling showers from the ceiling.  How cute is this display of treats?
Sweet little favors.  A candle to light for the new baby girl on the night of her birth.

 Homemade donuts...with sprinkles, of course!

 The best cake pops ever!

There were sprinkles everywhere, even in the votives!  Love it!

White chocolate dipped strawberries with rainbow sprinkles.  Yum!

The drink glasses were mason jars with pink and white paper straws that had little rain clouds on them!  Can it get any cuter?

A sweet little gift stand.

Sprinkles, sprinkles, everywhere!

An adorable gift bag from Target.

In The Navy

It is funny how things change.  If you had asked me 5-10 years ago, I would have told you that the color blue would be the last thing that I wanted to include in my personal home decor.  For some reason, I just really didn't like it.  But lately I have been coming around.  Really around.  I am now in the process of trying to incorporate it into my existing living areas.

So, I have had blue on my mind, especially navy blue.  It is everywhere right now, especially in Fall fashion.  Here is a little navy fun for today.

Brie, Pear, and Ham Pizza

Today I am sharing my favorite homemade pizza recipe.  This one is super easy, yet feels a little sophisticated.  As I have said before, I am all for taking the easy way out in the kitchen, so I usually opt for buying pizza dough from the bakery department of my local grocery store.  Why waste the time making dough from scratch (I say)?

Once the dough is flattened out (which takes a lot of flour and patience) brush the dough with a generous amount of olive oil and a clove or two of minced garlic.  Slice pear into very thin slices and layer sparingly on dough.  Next, layer ham and top with slices of brie.  Bake at 400 for 18-20 minutes.  Super easy and delicious!

Balance

You know those days when you try so hard to get so many different things done, that you end up finishing nothing?  That was my day today.  I am still trying to get my daughter's room redecorating done, all my fall decorating up and photographed, and I am still working toward that half-marathon that I signed up for during a moment of temporary insanity.  I didn't manage to complete either of my projects, and even my long run was cut short.  I pretty much just ran out of steam.

I am reminded of a conversation I had today with a friend.  We were talking about trying to find balance between family life, work life and personal life, and how the quest for that balance is an ever evolving process.  I really think that it changes from day to day.  Some days run like clockwork and you feel like you have it down, and other days you feel like you can't find balance no matter how hard you try.  Today was definitely the latter for me.  Time has taught me that you really just have to roll with it, and accept that rough days will happen but the good days will happen even more.

That leads me to my blog post today.  I have  a post I have been putting together over a few days and I thought I was done with it.  Then I sat down this evening, exhausted from my run, my busy day, and putting my children to sleep and I realized I am no where near done with that post.  And I will be honest with you, I just don't have it in me to finish it tonight.  It will be up soon.  In the mean time,  I figured I would share a little online shopping I did this weekend.  There were several great sales going on, and one of those was that Old Navy was offering 40% off for cardholders.  Here is what I grabbed:

Yes, I do realize that I have two pair of burgundy jeans.  I have been wanting a good pair since last year, but I had not found one that works.  I am hoping that one of these two pair will work out for me.  That is what I love about free shipping and free returns.  I can order it, try it out, and if it ends up being a "no", no big deal.

Halloween Decor

Halloween is around the corner!  I feel like we have been preparing for it for a while.  As soon as school begins, my children start asking how many days until Halloween.  We are on a daily countdown.  Costumes are purchased, decorations are going up, and I am doing everything in my power to resist buying candy corn(my total weakness).

Shopping With A Cause

As I am sure that most all of you are already aware, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Breast Cancer affects us all.  We all know someone who has been touched in some way, and we all want to find some way to show our support.  There are many, many ways to do so, but one small such way is to purchase one of the variety of items available this month that support Breast Cancer charities.  I have brought together a few examples to share with you today.

Have a look at the links below, and also please keep a few things in mind:

  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
  • While most Breast Cancers occur in women over 50, younger women are also at risk.  Be sure to check yourself.  Find out how to do that here.
  • About 1% of all Breast Cancer cases occur in men.  Yes, men can get Breast Cancer.  Be sure to check on your husband/boyfriend.  Men are more likely to put off getting a medical check up.  If you see any signs, urge him to see a doctor.
